Chad launches tourism development plans for Zakouma and Ennedi

The Chadian government has established a technical committee to design tourism development plans for Zakouma National Park and the Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve. The committee was officially installed on September 24, 2026, in N’Djamena during a ceremony led by the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Handicrafts, Abakar Rozzi Teguil.

The initiative aims to transform these two heritage sites into economic hubs by improving infrastructure, accessibility, visitor services, and destination promotion. Zakouma will focus on its rich biodiversity and fauna, while Ennedi will leverage its unique rock formations and cultural heritage. This project follows partnership agreements signed on July 2, 2026, with African Parks.

A primary goal of the strategy is to ensure local communities benefit directly from tourism through jobs in hospitality, transport, guiding, and handicrafts. The committee is tasked with balancing increased visitor numbers with the essential preservation of the sites' natural and historical ecosystems.
