Chad mobilizes against dengue outbreak after 11 deaths

Chad's Prime Minister, Ambassador Allah Maye Halina, has called for a coordinated national response to combat a growing dengue epidemic. During an interministerial meeting on October 22, 2026, health officials reported 3,846 suspected cases across six provinces, including N'Djamena, Ennedi Ouest, Batha, Ouadda茂, Sila, and Wadi-Fira. Of these, 299 cases have been confirmed, resulting in 11 deaths.

The government's strategy includes intensifying ground and aerial spraying operations to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and improving sanitation. To support these efforts, the Ministry of National Education has mandated that teachers dedicate 30 minutes daily to educating students on prevention methods, such as eliminating stagnant water and using mosquito repellents.
