Chad officials address rainfall irregularities and land management issues

In Chad, government officials are addressing critical challenges regarding climate variability and land management. Tahir Hamid Nguilin, Minister of Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation, met with technical and financial partners, including the World Bank, to evaluate irregular rainfall patterns. This meeting aimed to establish a monitoring framework to protect the agricultural and pastoral sectors from unpredictable weather that affects different provinces unevenly.

Separately, Mahamat Assileck Halata, Minister of Land Management, Urbanism, and Housing, concluded a ten-day mission across 18 provinces to audit land administration. The minister reported significant challenges, including insufficient technical resources, personnel shortages, and low revenue collection. The audit also identified issues with the management of state land reserves, specifically in Mongo and Am-Timan, and highlighted instances of illegal land sales and administrative inefficiencies within provincial delegations.
