Chad reinforces military presence on Central African Republic border

Military reinforcements have been reported along the border between Chad and the Central African Republic (CAR) amid escalating diplomatic tensions. The buildup follows a military operation conducted by the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) on October 10, 2026, which reportedly received support from Russian forces.

Bangui authorities stated the operation was a preventive measure to neutralize an armed group planning attacks on several towns. However, the intervention allegedly resulted in several deaths within the Chadian military. In response, N’Djaména summoned the Central African ambassador on October 13 to express formal indignation regarding the incident.

The increased military presence has caused significant concern among border populations. Residents in towns near the frontier have reported unusual movements and an atmosphere of apprehension as the security situation in Central Africa appears to be deteriorating.
