Chad Schofield to ride Skyhook in Golden Eagle

Jockey Chad Schofield will replace Kerrin McEvoy as the rider for Skyhook in the $10 million Golden Eagle at Randwick this Saturday. The change follows McEvoy’s unsuccessful appeal against an eight-meeting suspension for a whip infringement during the Geelong Cup.

Skyhook is co-trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou. Ryan expressed disappointment regarding McEvoy, who has ridden the horse in 10 of its 16 starts, but noted that Schofield was selected due to his ability to participate in final preparations.

Skyhook enters the race in strong form, having secured two Group 2 victories this spring and a second-place finish in the Silver Eagle. The horse is currently third in the betting markets at $8, behind favorites Sheza Alibi and Beiwacht.
