Chad sovereign credit rating affirmed at B- by S&P and Fitch

International rating agencies S&P and Fitch Ratings have confirmed Chad’s sovereign credit rating at ‘B-’ with a stable outlook. The decision reflects confidence in the country’s economic prospects, ongoing structural reforms, and a favorable debt profile despite regional and international uncertainties.

Fitch anticipates public debt will remain around 26% of GDP during the 2026–2028 period, supported by prudent fiscal management and a high proportion of concessional financing. Both agencies noted improvements in budget management, specifically regarding non-oil revenue mobilization through the digitalization of tax and customs administrations and the implementation of electronic invoicing.

Economic growth projections remain strong, with real GDP expected to grow by an average of 5.2% annually between 2026 and 2030. This growth is expected to be driven by infrastructure investments under the ‘Tchad Connexion 2030’ national development plan. The agencies also highlighted the importance of continued support from international partners, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and various bilateral and development institutions.
