Chad Teachers' Union demands urgent reforms in Salamat

The Salamat provincial section of the Chad Teachers' Union (SET) has issued a formal demand for urgent government action regarding the social and professional conditions of educators. Ahead of the 2026-2027 school year, the union highlighted several critical grievances, including the need to revise the teaching profession's index point to reflect current economic realities.

Specific financial demands include the full payment of unpaid half-salaries from February 2026 for teachers in N’Djaména, as well as salary arrears for union leaders. The union is also calling for the settlement of arrears related to career advancements, promotions, and reclassifications. Additionally, the SET is advocating for the payment of subsidies to community teachers and their eventual integration into the formal civil service.
