Chad traditional leaders to convene in Mongo to prevent community conflicts

Traditional authorities from all 23 provinces of Chad will meet in Mongo from October 29 to 31 for a national forum focused on conflict prevention and social cohesion. Organized by the High Council of Traditional Chieftaincies (HCCT), the event aims to strengthen the role of traditional leaders in mediating community, land, and agro-pastoral disputes.

The forum, held under the patronage of President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, will include government representatives, religious leaders, and members of civil society, including farmers, herders, women, and youth groups. Seven ministries, including those responsible for Defense, Security, and Justice, are expected to participate.

Participants intend to develop a roadmap and establish an early warning system for conflicts. The meeting seeks to enhance collaboration between traditional chieftaincies, territorial administration, and security forces to create a permanent framework for dialogue and peace.
