Chadian Senator suspended from football for eight years

The Chadian Football Federation Association (FTFA) has issued an eight-year suspension to Senator Foullah Ibrahim Wang Laouna, the president of the club Foullah Edifice. The disciplinary decision, announced on September 3, 2026, follows remarks made by the senator during a Senate session on June 29, 2026. During that session, Wang Laouna criticized the FTFA and its leadership, accusing the association of corruption and making questionable financial promises to Idriss Youssouf Boy.

The FTFA Ethics and Disciplinary Commission ruled that the comments constituted a “grave attack on the honor, probity, and consideration of institutional football.” In addition to the suspension from all football-related activities, the senator was fined one million CFA francs. Wang Laouna has defended his actions by citing parliamentary immunity and arguing that his club is managed by a separate entity.

In response, the Secretary General of the Senate, Abdallah Chidi Djorkodei, has formally requested the annulment of the suspension. The Senate argues that the FTFA’s actions infringe upon parliamentary immunity, which is constitutionally protected to ensure freedom of expression and the independence of the legislative mandate. The Senate maintains that no senator should be prosecuted or judged for opinions expressed in the exercise of their functions.
