CHAEVI to build off-grid solar EV charging station in Goseong

CHAEVI has signed a memorandum of understanding with Covillage Company to develop an eco-friendly electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Goseong, Gangwon Province. The project will be located at the ‘Covillage Goseong’ senior life campus.

A key feature of this initiative is the implementation of an ‘off-grid’ charging model. Unlike traditional stations that rely on the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) grid, this facility will use electricity generated by on-site solar power installations and stored in Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to charge vehicles. This represents a first-of-its-kind attempt in South Korea to create a self-sufficient charging model that operates independently of the national power grid.

The project also includes the development of ‘CHAEVI Stay,’ a complex charging culture space that integrates rapid charging with food and beverage (F&B), rest areas, and retail services. This space is intended to serve both residents of the campus and EV users visiting the East Coast. CHAEVI is also discussing strategic investment in the project, which could lead to expanded cooperation in future developments in the Seoul metropolitan area, Jeju, and overseas.
