Chai Nat flooding traps disabled man in Thailand
A man with severe physical disabilities, Boonserm Sisuk, has been trapped in his home in Chai Nat Province, Thailand, due to rising floodwaters from the Chao Phraya River. As water levels rose following increased discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam on October 1, Sisuk prioritized saving his electric wheelchair by paying an acquaintance to move it to a higher level in his house to prevent damage.
While the wheelchair was preserved, the move left Sisuk without his primary means of mobility, effectively confining him to his residence. He has been managing by preparing simple meals and utilizing food supplies, such as rice and canned goods, previously donated by charitable individuals. He also used his final 1,000 baht in government welfare funds to purchase essential groceries including oil, eggs, and coffee to prepare for an uncertain duration of the flood.
Local medical units have facilitated the delivery of essential chronic disease medications, including treatments for diabetes and blood lipids, directly to his home to ensure continuity of care. However, he remains unable to leave his house until the floodwaters recede and his wheelchair can be used again.
