Chainlink launches CCIP 2.0 and expands Swift blockchain integration

Chainlink has launched CCIP 2.0, an upgraded cross-chain interoperability protocol designed for institutional use. The update introduces Cross-Chain Verifiers (CCV), allowing financial institutions and asset issuers to run their own independent verification layers alongside Chainlink’s default 16-node network. This provides customizable security and compliance, integrating with Chainlink’s Automated Compliance Engine to support KYC, AML, and sanctions screening.

Key technical enhancements include an opt-in faster-than-finality execution path for Ethereum-linked transfers, which can reduce confirmation times to approximately 12–24 seconds. Users can also configure transaction limits, modular fees, and settlement requirements based on risk and value. However, documentation notes that if a required CCV is unresponsive, it may cause delays or stalls in token delivery.

Separately, Chainlink is developing infrastructure to connect traditional banking systems to Swift’s blockchain-based ledger. This integration, supported by the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE), aims to facilitate 24/7 cross-border payments using tokenized deposits. Under this model, banks maintain control over their own transaction-signing keys and internal deposit ledgers while using Swift’s ledger as a coordination layer for interbank transactions.
