Chainsmoker Cat anime placed on hiatus amid regulatory controversy
The anime Chainsmoker Cat has been placed on hiatus and removed from certain streaming platforms following regulatory concerns. Medialink Entertainment’s streaming service, Ani-One Asia, announced it would stop streaming new episodes to comply with local government regulations in specific markets.
The Hong Kong Department of Health reportedly issued a letter stating the show’s content violated the Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance. While the series features mature themes, officials from Taiwan’s Health Promotion Administration suggested the issue may stem from the promotion of a real Japanese cigarette brand featured in the show.
Despite the removal from Ani-One Asia’s YouTube channel in several Asian regions, the anime is expected to continue its weekly release schedule after returning from hiatus next week.
