Chairman Wontumi's prison conditions at Nsawam disputed

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP known as Chairman Wontumi, is currently serving a 20-year sentence at Nsawam Medium Security Prison following a conviction related to galamsey activities.

Recent reports regarding his prison conditions have seen conflicting accounts. Paul Kwabena Yandoh, a political ally, has denied rumors that Wontumi receives preferential treatment. Yandoh stated that Wontumi shares a cell with approximately 50 inmates and sleeps on only half of a student mattress.

Separately, Minority Chief Whip and MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh visited the facility to donate essential supplies, including rice, maize, sugar, milk, and soap, to support the welfare of the inmates. During this visit, Annoh-Dompreh met with Wontumi.
