Chaka Khan rejects labels regarding her sexuality

Music icon Chaka Khan has pushed back against public assumptions regarding her sexuality. During a recent interview with The Observer, the 73-year-old singer challenged being labeled a ‘straight icon’ for LGBTQ+ visibility, questioning how others could claim to know her sexual orientation.

Khan stated that she keeps her personal life private and does not believe others have the right to define her. While she did not publicly label herself, she reaffirmed her support for the LGBTQ+ community, noting, ‘I am for everybody,’ and emphasizing that she cares about a person’s heart rather than their sexual partners.

Additionally, Khan addressed recurring speculation regarding a sexual relationship with the late musician Prince. She dismissed these rumors, characterizing their connection as a deep friendship and creative partnership, and expressed frustration with interviewers who focus on such reductive questions.
