Chakan–Talegaon corridor faces infrastructure and safety crisis
The Chakan–Talegaon industrial and logistics corridor in Maharashtra is facing a critical infrastructure crisis. Rapid expansion in the region has outpaced road development, leading to severe traffic congestion and significant public safety concerns.
According to an internal report from the Pimpri Chinchwad police, road accidents in the Chakan industrial belt have resulted in 152 deaths and over 200 injuries since the start of 2024. The highest frequency of fatal crashes has been recorded on the Talegaon-Chakan and Chakan-Shikrapur corridors, areas identified as suffering from severe infrastructural neglect.
While the Pimpri-Chinchwad area maintains a more established urban structure, the Chakan–Talegaon belt has seen explosive growth in investment and employment. This has placed immense pressure on bridges, junctions, and transport systems. Experts warn that without improved road planning and better coordination between agencies such as the PMRDA, PCMC, and MIDC, the gap between industrial growth and necessary infrastructure will continue to widen.
