Chakhesang Baptist Church Council protests Sunday electoral roll publication

The Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) has announced protests against the scheduled publication of draft electoral rolls in the Phek district. The publication, part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 for four Assembly constituencies, was set for September 20, which falls on a Sunday.

The CBCC expressed strong opposition to the timing, stating that Sunday is a sacred day of worship for the Christian community. The council described the decision as insensitive and a “desecration of the Lord’s Day,” alleging that the last-minute announcement showed a lack of consideration for religious freedom.

In its statement, the council criticized the silence of political parties, government officials, and electoral authorities regarding the matter. The CBCC vowed to oppose any administration or organization that it believes undermines the Christian faith or attempts to coerce the community into acting against its religious beliefs.
