Chakhesang Students’ Union opposes further delays on NH-29 road project

The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has formally opposed granting any further Extension of Time (EoT) to M/s Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. regarding the NH-29 Two-Lane Kohima–Jessami Road Package-II project.

In a representation to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) regional office in Kohima, the CSU cited significant delays and inadequate progress. Although the project was originally due for completion on January 4, 2026, and was subsequently extended to September 24, 2026, the Union reported that physical progress stands at only 44.30%.

The Union highlighted that the road is a vital lifeline for residents of the Phek, Kiphire, and Meluri districts. They noted that the deteriorating and often unmotorable condition of the highway has caused severe hardships for students, patients, traders, and government employees, leading to commuters being stranded for hours and an increase in accidents. Despite a six-point agreement signed in June 2026 to facilitate completion, the CSU alleges the contractor lacks sufficient machinery and manpower to address the delays.
