Chalkidiki wildlife attacks injure two Serbian tourists

Two separate wildlife attacks involving Serbian tourists have caused alarm in the Neos Marmaras area of Chalkidiki, Greece. The most recent incident involved a young child, approximately two years old, who was attacked by what is believed to be a jackal while at a beach. The child was treated for injuries to the head and back at Hippokrateio Hospital in Thessaloniki and is reported to be in good condition after receiving anti-rabies serum.

This follows an attack on a 46-year-old Serbian man a few days prior, who sustained neck injuries. The Hunting Federation of Macedonia and Thrace (KOMATH) is investigating whether the predator is a jackal or a wolf. DNA samples from the child have been sent to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for analysis to determine the species and check for a connection to a similar wolf attack on a child in the same region in September 2025.

Kyriakos Skordas, director of KOMATH, expressed concern that the animal appears to have lost its natural fear of humans, stating that it ‘treats the human not as a threat but as prey.’ Authorities have launched a search for the animal and are urging tourists to avoid approaching or feeding wildlife.
