Chalkidiki residents report frequent wolf attacks on dogs

Residents in the Taxiarhis area of Chalkidiki are expressing growing concern following a series of wolf attacks on domestic dogs. Local reports indicate that more than ten such incidents have occurred within the last two months.

The most recent attack took place last Friday morning at a stable located approximately 150 meters from the village houses. A large guard dog, used to protect horses and mules used for timber transport, was killed by a wolf or a pack of wolves.

Locals note that while wolves have historically been present in the region, they have never approached settlements so closely or entered residential yards. Residents have also observed a change in behavior, noting that the wolves are now mauling animals rather than just attacking them. Local authorities and residents are expected to contact relevant services to request preventative measures and discuss potential compensation for animal losses. Authorities have advised residents to exercise increased caution, particularly during nighttime hours.
