Chalkidiki SMEs nearly double in number since 2018

The number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Chalkidiki has nearly doubled, growing from approximately 8,000 in 2018 to around 15,000 today. While tourism remains the primary economic driver, the region is seeing significant growth in other sectors, including manufacturing and services.

During an event hosted by the Chalkidiki Chamber of Commerce, officials discussed the challenges facing these businesses, such as inflation, rising costs, and geopolitical pressures. Access to financing remains a primary demand for local entrepreneurs. In response, Deputy Minister of Development Stavros Kalafatis highlighted available financial tools and development laws aimed at easing credit access.

Additionally, regional officials noted the impact of programs like 'Kleidi' and 'Proodos,' which involve a total of 200 million euros to support both existing and new businesses. The tourism sector also shows positive trends, with bookings extending into late September and performance levels comparable to previous high-performing years.
