Challenges and feasibility factors for new business ventures

Entrepreneurs face significant psychological and economic hurdles when transitioning from a business idea to an active venture. Key challenges include the tendency to seek information that confirms an idea's viability rather than objectively testing its technical, financial, and legal feasibility.

Common warning signs of an unfeasible business include insufficient evidence of customer willingness to pay, financial models that only function under perfect conditions, inability to meet market price points, excessive capital requirements, and reliance on uncontrollable assumptions. In regions like Nigeria, these challenges are compounded by high inflation and infrastructure constraints.

Additionally, psychological barriers such as loss aversion—where the perceived risk of leaving a stable job outweighs potential gains—often prevent individuals from acting on opportunities. A lack of familiarity with financial terminology, such as collateral and amortization, can also serve as a deterrent to starting a new enterprise.
