Chama Crioula 2026 journey begins in Rio Grande do Sul

The journey to ignite the 2026 Chama Crioula has begun, a symbolic ritual marking the start of the Farroupilha festivities in Rio Grande do Sul. The process involves riders traveling through various municipalities to collect the spark of the symbolic flame.

In Sobradinho, the Cavalgada da Centelha da Chama Crioula 2026 departed from the headquarters of the Cavaleiros da Serra. The group is traveling toward Rio Pardo, where the official lighting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 14. Following the ceremony, the flame will be distributed to 30 traditionalist regions. The regional procession will continue through several locations, including Albardão, Candelária, Cerro Branco, Lagoa Bonita do Sul, and Ibarama.

Simultaneously, members of the Piquete Chama Crioula from Camaquã are also embarking on a mounted journey toward Rio Pardo. Once the flame reaches Camaquã, it will be guarded by the local community to ignite the sparks for regional entities and piquetes during the September celebrations. The Chama Crioula serves as a central symbol of Gaúcho history, unity, and cultural values.
