Chamari Athapaththu takes 7 wickets for 5 runs in historic Asia Cup performance

Sri Lanka women's cricket captain Chamari Athapaththu delivered a historic performance during the 2026 Women's Asia Cup in Dubai. In a Group B match against Indonesia, Athapaththu claimed seven wickets for just five runs in 3.3 overs, a feat that includes a hat-trick. This achievement makes her the first player to take seven wickets in a single Asia Cup match, spanning both men's and women's formats.

Following her dominant bowling spell, Athapaththu also reached career-high ICC Women's T20I ranking points across all three major categories: batting (734), bowling (552), and all-rounder (405). Her recent performances, including an unbeaten 48 against the UAE earlier in the tournament, have propelled her to sixth in the batting rankings and third in the all-rounder standings.

Sri Lanka secured a 75-run victory over Indonesia after posting 124 runs. Other Sri Lankan players also saw ranking improvements, including Imesha Dulai, who reached a career-high 18th in batting, and Mithali Ayodhya, who rose to 70th in bowling.
