Chamber of Commerce seeks special Schengen status for professional drivers
The Chamber of Commerce is calling for a special Schengen status for professional drivers to exempt them from the restrictions currently applied to tourists. The business sector argues that the current 90-day Schengen limitations create unsustainable administrative hurdles for transporters.
According to the Chamber's coordinator for international cooperation, the proposal suggests a parallel mechanism using bilateral visas, similar to long-term D-type visas. The Chamber emphasizes that this is not a migration issue but a matter of maintaining European supply chains, noting that 77.5 percent of the country's exports go directly to the EU.
Representatives plan to present this request to the European Commission through the Chamber Investment Forum. Additionally, the issue is expected to be raised at an upcoming meeting of regional economic ministers in Cetinje to ensure the concerns of the transport sector are addressed by high-level officials.
