Chambon village secures independent school status

The village of Chambon has successfully secured the future of its local school by withdrawing from a multi-commune school grouping (RPI) to establish its own independent educational structure. Following a difficult negotiation process, the mayor used municipal authority to compel the National Education directorate to assign two additional teachers to the village, ensuring three classes can be filled for the upcoming school year.

The decision to act independently cost the municipality approximately 80,000 euros, which was required to create a localized nursery school. To support the initiative, approximately fifty volunteers assisted with renovations, including the creation of dormitories, sanitary facilities, and classroom refreshments.

While Chambon celebrates the move as a way to ensure village development, the decision has caused tension with neighboring Virson. The mayor of Virson expressed opposition to the split, noting that the reduction in shared students will leave Virson and Bouhet with fewer pupils, potentially impacting their own school stability.
