Champagne exports show slight growth amid falling French demand

Champagne shipments showed signs of stabilization through the end of July 2026, with 131.1 million bottles exported since the beginning of the year, representing a 1% increase compared to the first seven months of 2025.

Despite this slight growth, the market remains fragile. On a rolling twelve-month basis, shipments have declined by 1.1% to 267.4 million bottles. The data reveals a growing divergence between the French domestic market and international demand. While exports rose by 7.9% in July to 15.4 million bottles, domestic shipments within France fell by 11.9% to 8.6 million bottles.

Performance varies by producer type. Champagne houses saw a 2.6% increase in total shipments since January, driven by a 5.5% rise in exports. Conversely, winegrowers experienced a 4.5% decline in shipments, largely due to a significant drop in the French market.
