Champagne houses Billecart-Salmon and Maison Lallier focus on terroir
Independent Champagne houses Billecart-Salmon and Maison Lallier are highlighted for their commitment to traditional winemaking and terroir-driven styles.
Billecart-Salmon, a family-owned house based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, has remained independent for over two centuries. Currently led by seventh-generation member Mathieu Roland-Billecart, the house is noted for its niche status among connoisseurs and its refusal to compromise on quality standards established since its founding in 1818.
Maison Lallier, founded in the Grand Cru commune of Aÿ in 1906, is focusing on its Réflexion collection. The R. 021 Brut Rosé is a key release in this line, utilizing a blend of 70% 2021 harvest wines and 30% reserve wines from 2020. The cuvée emphasizes structure and vinous character through a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier, with specific contributions from red wines in Bouzy to provide tannic density.
