Champagne sets 2026 harvest yield limit to 8,800 kg/ha to rebalance stocks

The Comité Champagne announced that the commercialisable yield for the 2026 vendange will be fixed at 8,800 kilograms per hectare. The move continues a four‑year series of reductions – from 11,400 kg/ha in 2023, 10,000 kg/ha in 2024 and 9,000 kg/ha in 2025 – aimed at gradually bringing vineyard inventories back into line with market demand while protecting the region’s quality standards.

The decision was taken jointly by vignerons and Champagne houses amid a challenging vintage marked by frost, June heatwaves and an emerging drought, as well as a sluggish French domestic market. At the end of June 2026, shipments reached 107.1 million bottles, a modest 1.2 % rise driven mainly by exports. By limiting the amount of grapes that can be sold, the Comité seeks to preserve the economic sustainability of producers and the value of the Champagne appellation.
