Champahati blast at alleged illegal firecracker unit injures two
An explosion at an alleged illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Champahati, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, left two people seriously injured on August 20.
The injured individuals have been identified as 52-year-old Padmarani Naskar and Abbas Gazi. Both were reportedly rushed to a hospital in critical condition following the blast.
Local residents alleged that the manufacturing operation was being run by Bapi Naskar and was being concealed under the guise of a fish business. The site was reportedly located in a forested area away from residential settlements.
A police team from the Baruipur Police District, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Atish Biswas, arrived at the scene to investigate the circumstances of the explosion and the allegations of unlawful manufacturing. Authorities are also working to determine if other individuals were involved in the operation.
