Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft: SIT clears Champat Rai and Anil Mishra
The Uttar Pradesh Home Department has submitted the Special Investigation Team (SIT) final report regarding the alleged theft of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The SIT report has cleared former Trust general secretary Champat Rai and former member Anil Mishra of involvement in the alleged theft. Both individuals had resigned from their positions on June 27 following the emergence of the allegations. During questioning, Rai maintained that he had personally lodged the initial complaint that led to the arrests.
The investigation identified eight individuals, including Avinash Shukla and Anukalp Mishra, who have been arrested in connection with the case. The SIT detected approximately 70 instances of cash theft in the temple counting room between April 27 and June 5. The report also highlighted security lapses, such as inadequate frisking and violations of standard operating procedures.
While the first SIT has concluded its report, a second SIT, reconstituted following Supreme Court intervention and headed by IG Kiran S, continues to investigate the matter to further examine the complexities of the case.
