Champotón: 19-year-old man dies while rescuing classmate from natural spring

A 19-year-old man, identified as Jorge C., died while attempting to rescue a classmate from a natural spring, known locally as an 'ojo de agua,' in the Ley de Reforma Agraria community of Champotón.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 22, while a group of young people were swimming in the natural water feature. According to reports, a young woman began to struggle to stay afloat and called for help. Jorge C. intervened to save her, successfully ensuring her safety, but he was unable to resurface.

Bystanders assisted in recovering his body from the water before authorities arrived. Personnel from the Champotón Municipal Public Security Directorate cordoned off the area and notified the State Attorney General's Office of Campeche (FGECAM). Forensic medical services transported the body for a legal autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Local authorities have urged visitors to exercise extreme caution when entering natural springs and swimming areas due to risks involving depth and currents.
