Chandauli hospital manager arrested for performing unauthorized surgery
A 24-year-old hospital manager, Indrajeet Prajapati, has been arrested in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, following the death of a patient after he allegedly performed surgery without medical qualifications.
Suman, the deceased patient, was admitted to Indra Hospital in Mahraiya on August 18 for a procedure related to her uterus. On August 19, in the absence of a doctor, Prajapati—a B.Sc. Nursing student—allegedly conducted the surgery himself. The procedure reportedly resulted in a severed vein and kidney damage, leading to the patient's death later that night.
Police arrested Prajapati on October 3 and have charged him with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigations by the Chief Medical Officer revealed that the facility lacked licensed medical staff or paramedics at the time of the incident. Local health authorities have moved to close the hospital pending further investigation.
