Chandigarh court convicts three in interstate charas smuggling case
A special NDPS court in Chandigarh has convicted three individuals for an interstate charas smuggling operation. The case stems from an incident on December 18, 2018, when the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Chandigarh Zonal Unit intercepted a Hyundai Verna near the Khuda Lahora bridge on the Himachal Pradesh-Chandigarh border.
Authorities seized 16.5 kilograms of charas from the vehicle, which was intended for distribution in Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The investigation led to the arrest of Joginder Singh from Kullu and Anil Kumar from Mandi at the scene, as well as Raj Kumar, also from Kullu, whose residence in Bhuntar yielded an additional 80 grams of the substance.
Following the legal proceedings initiated in June 2019, the court sentenced Joginder Singh and Anil Kumar to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 rupees each. Raj Kumar received a sentence of one year of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 rupees.
