Chandigarh expands city gas network and launches WhatsApp safety helpline
Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp helpline (9240216666) for residents to report electrical safety hazards such as damaged wires, poles, transformers and other issues. Users send the word “Help” and follow a step‑by‑step process to share photos, location and details, enabling rapid response by CPDL teams. CEO Brajesh Kumar urged the public to report hazards promptly to prevent accidents, especially during the monsoon season.
A high‑level meeting in Chandigarh reviewed the expansion of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network. The delegation, led by PNGRB Chairperson Anil Kumar Jain and Director Lt. Col. Kumar Abhishek, met with Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who inaugurated piped natural gas (PNG) supply at Raj Bhavan. The meeting focused on accelerating clean‑fuel adoption, addressing operational bottlenecks, and proposing tariff reforms to lower transportation costs for city‑gas entities. Over five lakh new PNG connections have been added recently, supporting the Union Territory’s shift toward cleaner energy.
