Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited signs 50 MW solar and battery storage deal
Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL), part of the RP–Sanjiv Goenka Group, has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to procure 50 MW of solar power combined with battery energy storage.
This marks Chandigarh’s first solar power connection to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). The arrangement is designed to meet daytime electricity demand through solar energy, while the battery storage system will supply electricity during the night and other periods of low solar availability. This integration aims to help CPDL manage fluctuating electricity demands more effectively.
The initiative is expected to deliver approximately 135 million units (MUs) of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 96 tons each year.
