Chandrima Bhattacharya resigns from TMC amid West Bengal party feud

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Chandrima Bhattacharya resigned from all party positions on Saturday, citing hurtful remarks by party chief Mamata Banerjee that accused her of handing over the party’s Kolkata headquarters to a rebel faction. In her resignation letter she withdrew as state party president, authorised signatory for bank accounts and representative before the Election Commission.

After stepping down, Bhattacharya met the rebel camp led by Ritabrata Banerjee, which has taken control of the Trinamool Bhavan office and installed senior MLA Arup Roy as party chairman. The resignation follows a widening internal revolt in the TMC after its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly election, with rival factions clashing over the party’s assets and leadership.

The episode has drawn criticism from opposition parties and highlighted the deepening infighting within the Trinamool Congress, raising questions about its future political relevance in West Bengal.
