Chanel secondhand prices exceed retail following Matthieu Blazy arrival
A new report from luxury re-commerce platform Fashionphile indicates that Matthieu Blazy’s influence at Chanel has driven secondhand prices for certain handbag designs above their retail values. Specifically, buyers have paid 13 percent above retail for the Chanel Souplissimo and Archetype Tote, and 15 percent above retail for Chanel Urban Essential bags.
The 2026 Fashionphile report also highlights broader luxury market trends. The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag remains the top seller for the second consecutive year, seeing a 16.2 percent year-over-year value increase. Other notable movements include the Prada Re-Edition rising to third place and the Fendi Spy bag experiencing a 127 percent spike in average resale value, attributed to the Y2K fashion revival.
In other categories, Hermès led in earrings, while Cartier topped the ring category with the Love ring. The report provides insights into generational and geographical style trends within the pre-owned designer market.
