Chang Chun-chieh, linked to Kao Chin-su-mei corruption case, flees

Chang Chun-chieh, the alleged financial manager for former legislator Kao Chin-su-mei, has fled after destroying his electronic monitoring bracelet. Following his disappearance, the Taipei District Court ordered the forfeiture of a 10 million TWD bail bond.

Investigations revealed that prior to his escape on September 6, Chang met with Chen Chun-wei, an assistant in Kao Chin-su-mei’s parliamentary office, at a restaurant in Xindian. During this hour-long meeting, Chang reportedly handed over a suspicious item to Chen. Chen was taken in for questioning and released on 50,000 TWD bail on suspicion of concealing a criminal and damaging public property. Prosecutors have also conducted searches at the parliamentary office.

The corruption case involving Kao Chin-su-mei includes allegations of defrauding public funds through ghost assistants and misappropriating subsidies. Chang is accused of facilitating these schemes and misappropriating approximately 16 million TWD in cultural exchange subsidies. Legal experts suggest that Chang’s flight may lead to stricter judicial measures against Kao, including potential detention.
