Chang Chun-chieh remains at large after escaping electronic monitoring

Chang Chun-chieh, the former office director for legislator Kao Chin-su-mei, remains at large after escaping from electronic monitoring at Da'an Forest Park on September 6. Following his flight, investigators have detained several individuals suspected of assisting his escape, including providing transportation and lodging.

Chen Wei-da, a member of the Bamboo Union gang known as ‘Little Michael,’ surrendered to authorities on September 17 accompanied by legal counsel. Prosecutors allege Chen assisted Chang in damaging his electronic monitoring device and facilitated his travel from Taipei to Chiayi and eventually to Kaohsiung.

The investigation has also drawn scrutiny toward political financing. Commentators have called for investigations into the financial flows of the offices of legislators Kao Chin-su-mei and Fu Kun-chi. This follows allegations regarding the ‘Grooming Set’ case, where Fu is accused of using funds suspected to be from Chinese sources to purchase campaign gifts for various legislators.
