Changhua Christian Hospital upgrades maternity care with LDR rooms

Changhua Christian Hospital has introduced upgraded Labor, Delivery, and Recovery (LDR) maternity rooms designed to provide a more personalized and gentle childbirth experience. The new facility allows patients to complete the stages of labor, delivery, and initial postpartum recovery within the same room and on a single bed, eliminating the need to move to a traditional delivery table during intense contractions.

Dr. Wang Yan-zhu, director of the maternity department, explained that the concept of ‘gentle childbirth’ focuses on empowering mothers to participate in medical decision-making. Options discussed with medical teams can include pain management, avoiding episiotomies, delayed cord clamping, and the use of supportive tools like birth balls or aromatherapy. The LDR rooms are also designed to accommodate multiple family members to support the birthing process.

The hospital aims to reduce the psychological stress and physical discomfort often associated with traditional delivery settings, offering a more continuous and supportive environment for both mothers and their families.
