Changhua County Councilor criticizes safety issues at Yongle Street construction site
Changhua County Councilor Wen Chih-hua has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing road improvement project on Yongle Street in Changhua City. During a press conference, Wen reported multiple safety hazards and disruptions to local residents and businesses.
Key issues identified include inadequate pedestrian safety measures, such as the use of wooden boards as temporary walkways over exposed rebar and a lack of steel guardrails in excavation areas. Wen noted that at least three individuals have already fallen due to these conditions. Additionally, the construction has caused gas leaks, broken water mains, power outages, and damage to commercial signage.
Wen is calling on relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive safety inspection and mandate improvements to site protections. She also proposed the establishment of a centralized engineering information and reporting platform to integrate updates on construction progress, utility disruptions (water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications), and a clear contact window for residents to report damages or emergencies.
