Changhua County Fire Bureau urges additional residential fire alarms

The Changhua County Fire Bureau has reported 160 successful alerts since implementing a policy to provide at least one free residential fire alarm to every residential address in the county.

Officials are emphasizing the importance of residents installing additional alarms beyond the government-subsidized unit. A recent residential fire in Changhua City served as a key example; while the government-subsidized alarm was on the first floor, the homeowner had independently installed an additional alarm on the second floor. This extra device detected smoke at the fire's origin point, allowing for a rapid response that prevented the fire from spreading and minimized property damage and potential casualties.

According to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior's Fire Department, fire damage in Taiwan totaled approximately NT$420 million in the first half of the year. The Fire Bureau urges citizens to install various types of alarms in hallways, kitchens, and individual rooms to create a comprehensive safety network, noting that a single alarm may not cover all living spaces.
