Changhua hosts longan quality evaluation competition

The Changhua County Government and the Shetou Township Farmers' Association organized the 115th Changhua County Longan Evaluation Competition to promote local agricultural branding and quality standards. The event featured 53 participating farming groups from six townships, including Shetou, Changhua City, Yuanlin, Fenyuan, 田中 (Tianzhong), and Ershui.

A professional judging team from the Taichung District Agricultural Improvement Station conducted a three-stage evaluation. The process assessed the color of the longan meat, the integrity of the shell, the meat yield, and the unique smoky aroma produced by traditional wood-fired roasting techniques. Ten winners were selected, including one champion, two runners-up, three third-place winners, and four merit awards.

The competition aims to help farmers refine processing techniques and establish quality benchmarks to enhance the market competitiveness of Changhua longan. The county government plans to continue collaborating with farmers' associations to build distinctive brands and expand market reach for local agricultural products.
