Changhua hosts San Shan Kings Hakka Culture Festival
The Changhua County San Shan Kings Hakka Culture Festival was held on October 24 and 25 at the San Qian Temple in Xizhou Township. The event featured a pilgrimage ceremony bringing together 117 deities from 39 different San Shan Kings temples across the county.
Magistrate Wang Hui-mei and other local officials attended the festivities, which aimed to preserve Hakka culture and promote local traditions. The festival included Hakka dance, song, and poetry performances, alongside static displays of Hakka artifacts and textiles. Attendees also enjoyed traditional Hakka cuisine, such as pounded tea, mochi, and qiaokuo.
The San Shan Kings faith, originating from the three mountains north of He'po Town in Jiexi County, Guangdong, was brought to Taiwan by early Hakka immigrants. The festival serves to connect younger generations with their ancestral history and to boost local tourism and the Hakka economy through religious and cultural exchange.
