Chania Film Festival honors composer Mihály Víg
The 14th Chania Film Festival will honor Hungarian composer, musician, and actor Mihály Víg. The tribute focuses on his long-standing creative partnership with the late director Béla Tarr.
The festival's central honorary event is scheduled for Monday, October 26, at the Chania Spiritual Center. Víg will perform a 45-minute concert and participate in an on-stage discussion with Festival Director Matthaios Frantzeskakis.
Accompanying events include screenings of ‘Werckmeister Harmonies’ on October 23 and the documentary ‘There Was a Tower: A Portrait of Mihaly Vig’ on October 25. A workshop analyzing the political and aesthetic logic in Tarr’s later cinema will also take place. The tribute concludes on October 27 with a screening of ‘Damnation’. Additionally, the festival has released a special commemorative edition titled ‘Bela Tarr: Resistances of the Image’.
