Global heat and health tragedies reported in Greece, US, and California

Multiple tragic incidents involving extreme heat and health emergencies have been reported. In Crete, a 41-year-old French tourist died after collapsing from dehydration while hiking a difficult, restricted path near Balos, Chania. Despite rescue efforts and CPR by firefighters and medical teams, she passed away during transport to the hospital. Authorities emphasized the danger of ignoring warnings and hiking in intense heat.

In the United States, an 8-year-old girl from Louisiana, Lillian Smart, died from a rare brain infection caused by the Naegleria fowleri amoeba after swimming in a lake. In Greece, other fatalities were reported, including a 63-year-old man found dead in the sea near Achladi, Phthiotis, and a patient who died during medical transport from Volos to Larissa due to cardiac complications.

Additionally, a 68-year-old French tourist died in Death Valley, California, following a car breakdown in 46-degree Celsius heat. Park officials warned of the extreme dangers posed by isolation and high temperatures in the region.
