Chania, Greece moves ahead with €22 m Venetian heritage restoration and €0.5 m road upgrade

The municipality of Chania has entered the tender phase for a €22 million restoration of its iconic Venetian heritage site, known as the Venetian Young Men. The project, funded through the EU "Environment and Climate Change 2021‑2027" programme, received approval from the Finance Ministry and will await Audit Court clearance before an international competition is launched, with an expected six‑month lead‑time to contract signing.

In the same region, the town of Apokoronas secured €500,000 from the Crete Regional Development Programme for road infrastructure improvements. Mayor Charalampos Koukianakis said the funding will make streets safer and more functional for residents, farmers, businesses and tourists, enhancing everyday life and supporting the local economy.
