Chania parking lot owner contests €11,200 tax fine

A parking lot owner in Chania is contesting €11,200 in tax fines following an audit by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). The investigation, which began on November 1, 2025, revealed that 12 vehicles had entered the facility without being recorded in the digital customer registry, resulting in a €1,200 penalty.

Further inspection found that the business lacked a functional EFT/POS terminal and the mandatory electronic connection to tax mechanisms, incurring an additional €10,000 fine. The owner has appealed to the Dispute Resolution Directorate, arguing that compliance was impossible due to force majeure. He claims his Smart POS terminal had been seized by the Greek Police during a criminal investigation that also led to his temporary detention, leaving the business to be managed by an unauthorized foreign employee.
