Chania school bus incident: Two children left locked inside for five hours
Two young children, aged 4 and 5, were left locked inside a KTEL Chania-Rethymno school bus for approximately four to five hours on Wednesday, September 16, in the Chania region of Crete.
The incident was discovered when a mother arrived at a local kindergarten to deliver lunch to her child, only to be informed that the child had not attended school that morning. Upon searching the parked vehicle in the Panorama Paliochora area, the driver located both children in a distressed state, with parents reporting they were crying and had urinated on themselves.
Following the incident, the bus company, KTEL Chania-Rethymno, announced the immediate and permanent dismissal of the 55-year-old female attendant. The company expressed its regret and apologized to the families. Meanwhile, police have arrested the 45-year-old driver and the 55-year-old attendant following lawsuits filed by the parents. An investigation into the circumstances of the neglect is ongoing.
